Charkman Group of Sweden: higher quality presentation with higher performance production – thanks to AEW Delford Systems
Charkman, one of Sweden’s most progressive groups of cooked meat processors, have placed an order for an AEW Delford Systems Junior Slicer and a Robot Portion Loading System (RPLS). This new, advanced slicing and portion loading system will complement the existing high output PolySlicer Plus and automatic line that slices and packs high volumes of salami, ham and other cooked meats. It will greatly increase capacity and add yet more flexibility to the Boras plant, located east of Gothenborg on the Viskan river. The Charkman group is made up of 12 small to medium sized family owned companies who cooperate closely on most aspects of the food processing business – from buying in raw product to pooling production resources and selling only Charkman branded finished products to wholesalers and multiple retailers throughout Sweden.
The
new Junior Slicer will be used to slice a number
of cooked meat products, including salami, ham and typically, sausage
sliced into 180mm long
10-12 slice shingles. The shingles will be picked up by the RPLS and
placed
into thermoformed trays at speeds in excess of 50 packs/min. (depending
on the product and format) The loaded trays will then be conveyed to
a Fuji Flowpacker for packing and sealing prior to being weighed, priced
and labelled by an AEW Delford Systems Weigh Price Labeller. Finished
packs are then placed into cartons for shipment.
The labour saving benefits, easy hygiene and safety aspects of the system are obvious and attractive features, but the speed, precision, consistency and careful handling capabilities of the AEW Delford Robot Portion Loading System convinced Charkman to invest in this new, high performing technology. “Shingled slices can be quickly and perfectly handled with a level of precision and consistency that a human could never achieve,” said Charkman’s managing director, Kjell Fernbrand.
