Flint Hills Foods is a company which truly believes that to do business in the rapidly changing 1990s you have to combine old style customer service with use of the latest technological advances.
Based in Alma, Kansas the company produces portion controlled meats, prepared entrées, Flint Hills beef jerky, Flint Hills sausages and Alma cheese. Selling this wide range of over 300 lines, in ten states, to the hotels, restaurants and institutions sector calls for innovation and quality.
For its portion controlled meats business, which features a wide variety of cut steaks including Rib-eye and New York strips, Flint Hills Foods uses two APC Slicers. Flexibility and the ability to respond quickly to customers orders is what the APC delivers according to president Bernie Hansen. "When we first considered purchasing an APC Slicer there was an understandable reluctance to change from staff. But once they tried it they were convinced. The demonstration model was purchased there and then and 30 days later we bought another one!
"APC is fast, accurate and produces a gorgeous finish. We want to specialise even more than we do now so it's important that we get portion weights just right, and the highest possible yields. APC allows us to do it all whatever the product."
Bernie Hansen was no stranger to AEW THURNE when he bought his first APC Slicer. In 1984 he bought an AEW THURNE 400 high speed bandsaw for portioning frozen T-bone steaks. "The 400 has been so reliable", says Bernie. "We had a fire in the plant some years ago which damaged most of our machines, but after a good clean-up the AEW THURNE still worked.
"It's a really well made machine that performs at high speeds."
