FLAT OUT FOR FLAT FISH

AEWDelford’s Sortaweigh GS 930 automatic grading system grades flat fish fast

Chas Newman & Sons in Devon, UK, a fresh fish merchant specialising in locally caught flat fish, has a 12 channel Sortaweigh GS930 automatic grading system for weighing and grading fish that was previously hand graded and sorted every morning.

The system weighs and grades whole flat fish at speeds of up to 80 pieces per minute. Capable of handling fish up to 2 kg in weight, the grader fills batch boxes to a target weight and count – at an accuracy of ±1g.

Matthew Newman is pleased with the improvements that the Sortaweigh system has brought. “The main benefit for us is the saving in time. The automatic system quickly sorts the fish at the start of each day, freeing up the staff that had been required for manual grading to start processing and packing the fish much earlier.”

Sortaweigh’s GS 900 range of grading systems meets the demands of the modern fish processing industry with high level performance and hygiene thanks to innovative software and mechanical engineering that deliver fast, effective - and flexible - grading.
All GS 900 systems are manufactured from stainless steel, providing water protection in excess of IP66 and allowing easy access to all areas for washdown. Even the control panel has no indentations, ensuring maximum hygiene during cleaning.

Easy to operate

The compact electronic console has a powerful power PC microprocessor driving a 10.4” screen with piezo-electric touch controls. Display is in full colour and changes are easily made through touch sensitive buttons.

Full management control

Today’s processors demand that up-to-minute data be available for management control. Introduced to work in conjunction with the GS 900, Sortaweigh has developed the RMS Network control package. Capable of interfacing with up to 30 systems simultaneously, this software will capture data on a PC to provide running information in real-time via two-way communication.

Catering for every need

GS 900 systems are designed to cater for all fresh and frozen grading requirements – basic grading, to target weights with or without a fixed count and at speeds in excess of 400 pieces per minute with dual weigh cells.

Depending on actual requirements, the systems can be fitted with a variety of takeaway conveyors for transporting completed batches to end of line bagging or boxing equipment.
