Silver milestone
Two world-class businesses both celebrating 25 years of success
Twenty-five years of doing business together has brought significant benefits for AEW THURNE and its customer Brooks of Norwich. AEW THURNE has supplied Brooks with meat cutting and processing equipment since 1970 when the first bandsaw arrived at Brooks premises.
Since the delivery of the first AEW THURNE equipment, which was installed by Vic Brown, AEW THURNE's then head of technical support and now the company's managing director, Brooks has grown into a multi-million pound company. It employs 800 people and processes upwards of 35,000 New Zealand lambs per week, as well as frozen cuts of pork, beef and offal. The company is a major supplier of portioned products to major supermarket chains, catering companies and also exports products throughout the world.
The AEW THURNE processing equipment now on site includes automatic and manual portion cutting, automatic portion control and automatic cubing machines and systems.
Constant weight and portion control together with minimal waste is of paramount consideration to meet the demands of today's marketplace. Brooks relies on AEW THURNE's sophisticated equipment to deliver high levels of performance. "With the huge throughput Brooks has, they must have equipment which is reliable and efficient," commented John Whitehouse. "Throughout our association we have ensured that the equipment meets their needs and that's how you get repeat orders.
"It has been very satisfying to see a key customer which is also another Norfolk company, grow and prosper alongside our own."
Barry Brooks, managing director, Brooks of Norwich, remembers when the first bandsaw from AEW THURNE was delivered. "Our relationship started when AEW THURNE's founder, Arthur Edward Whitehouse provided the company with a bandsaw and agreed that we could pay for it when we got paid for the contract. From this first transaction, which was certainly based on trust, our business relationship has developed and we are now one of AEW THURNE's largest customers."
"The original bandsaw has been replaced but some of the equipment has been in the factory for over 15 years and is still working well. AEW THURNE's Bandsaws are robust, reliable and easy to maintain and when you are continually having to meet tight delivery schedules that type of reliability is very important."
